my approach to photography is all about capturing real, unposed moments.

Photography is more than just pressing a button — it’s about telling your story, preserving your memories, and creating something you’ll cherish for years to come. I believe in capturing the real, in-between moments as much as the big smiles, because those are the ones you’ll look back on and feel all over again.

When you book with me, you’re investing in more than images. You’re investing in a relaxed, enjoyable experience where you can be yourself while I handle the rest — from finding the best light to helping you feel comfortable in front of the camera. Every session includes carefully edited, high-resolution images delivered in a beautiful online gallery, ready for you to download, print, and share with the people you love most.

These days pass quickly — photographs help us hold onto them a little longer.

Mini Sessions

Mini sessions are a simple and meaningful way to document your family just as you are — full of connection, movement, laughter, and love. These short, thoughtfully planned sessions are offered a few times throughout the year and are perfect for families wanting honest, beautiful images in a relaxed setting.

Mini sessions are only offered on select dates and are not available to book on request. Because availability is limited, spots tend to fill quickly once they’re released.

FAQ

What if my home doesn't look "perfect"?

Your home does not need to look “perfect” to tell a beautiful story. Some of the most meaningful photographs come from spaces that feel lived in and loved. Documentary-style photography is about connection, emotion, and the season of life you’re in right now — not spotless counters or magazine-worthy rooms.

I’ll naturally work with the best light and spaces in your home, and often only a small area is needed. The little details that make your home yours are part of the story, too.

What should we wear for our session?

I always recommend choosing outfits that feel comfortable, natural, and true to your family. Soft, neutral, and earthy tones tend to photograph beautifully and help keep the focus on connection rather than clothing. Instead of matching perfectly, aim for coordinating tones and textures that feel cohesive without being overly styled.

Most importantly, wear something you feel good in. Documentary-style sessions are centered around movement, interaction, and genuine moments, so comfort matters just as much as appearance. Barefoot kids, cozy knits, flowing dresses, relaxed layers, and lived-in pieces often photograph beautifully because they feel authentic to real life.

Once your session is booked, I’m always happy to help with outfit guidance or color palette suggestions.

How long does it take to get our photos?

My standard turnaround time is two weeks, unless otherwise noted. I take great care in editing each image so your gallery feels intentional, polished, and true to your family.

Do you offer albums or prints?

I offer custom coffee table albums as an add-on during the booking process. If you decide afterward that you’d love one created from your session images, just let me know and I’ll happily guide you through the process.

Do you travel?

Yes! Nicole Cook Photography is based in Mesa, AZ, and I love documenting families in meaningful places that feel true to you.

Travel within 40 miles round trip is included with your session. For locations beyond that, a travel fee of $0.75 per mile (round trip) will apply. Sessions requiring extensive travel or overnight accommodations will receive a custom travel quote.

If you have a special location in mind, I’d love to hear about it — I’m always excited to explore new places with my clients.

We would like to have our session in a studio, how do we do that?

Absolutely! Studio sessions are a beautiful option if you’re wanting a clean, timeless setting or a more controlled environment for your photos.

For sessions held in a professional studio, an additional rental fee will apply. This fee goes directly toward reserving the studio space itself — there are no added markups on my end. I’m always happy to recommend local studios that align with your vision and the overall feel you’re hoping for.

You can also check out my upcoming mini sessions, as many of them are hosted in studio spaces and offer a great way to enjoy a studio setting without the additional rental cost.

How do we book you?

Booking is simple and very personal. Start by submitting an inquiry through my website. I’ll respond to chat more about what you’re looking for and send over a short questionnaire to learn more about your family and your session goals. Once we’ve decided we’re a good fit, I’ll send you a contract. After the contract is signed and the deposit is paid, your session is officially booked and you’re on my calendar.

What is the best time to schedule a newborn session?

Newborn sessions typically take place within the first few weeks, but lifestyle sessions can be beautiful even beyond that window. There’s no strict timeline — we’ll do what feels right for your family.Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet

WHAT IF MY KIDS DON’T COOPERATE?

That’s completely okay — and honestly, very normal. My sessions are designed with real families and real kids in mind, which means there’s no expectation for perfectly behaved children or constant smiling at the camera.

I focus on connection over perfection and allow plenty of space for movement, breaks, play, and genuine interaction. Some of the most meaningful images come from the in-between moments — the cuddles, the silliness, the chaos, and the comfort of simply being together.

DO YOU POSE US DURING THE SESSION?

My approach is more guided than heavily posed. I’ll gently prompt and direct when needed, but the goal is never stiff smiles or perfectly curated moments. Instead, I focus on natural interaction and documenting your family in a way that feels honest and true to you.

Think less “everyone look at the camera” and more movement, connection, conversation, and simply being together.

Should we clean up toys and clutter before our session?

Not at all. Your home doesn’t need to look perfectly tidy or magazine-ready for an in-home session. Real life is beautifully lived-in, and those little signs of everyday life are part of your story.

That said, if it helps you feel more relaxed, lightly tidying the main areas we’ll likely use — such as bedrooms, the living room, or nursery — can make a difference. I’ll also guide us toward the best light and spaces in your home, and often only a small corner is needed to create meaningful, beautiful images.
